The Talking Head singer is well-reputed for his out-of-the-box fashion statement. But, at the last Met, David Byrne turned quite a few heads with not just his sense of styling and his attire but with his unconventional fashion accessory on the carpet.

Byrne’s pedal-powered fashion move

Amongst glittering gowns, sky-high stilettos, and glamorous tuxedos Byrne appeared on the red carpet with a Budnitz titanium commuter bike at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the day of this year’s Met Gala. His pedal-powered move has left fans in awe. 

Byrne, as a visionary, chose to arrive on two wheels. His arrival was not just a daring step in the fashion realm. Rather, it was his individuality that grabbed attention. 

The theme for Met Gala 2023 was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. The theme was put up to pay tribute to the late legendary designer of Chanel.

Met Gala is undoubtedly one of the biggest festivals marked on the fashion calendar, Byrne chose to celebrate it in an all-white tuxedo.

Several celebrity attendees of the Met Gala including Doja Cat and Jared Leto chose to deck up as the German Fashion Designer’s cat choupette.

Byrne’s love for bicycles and monochrome 

The fact that Byrne is a bike advocate can be very well interpreted from his regular appearance at the Big Apple on his bicycle.

Back in 2009, David Byrne talked about his love for bicycles. He stated reasons for his preference in his documentary, ‘Bicycle Diaries’. Bryne mentioned how cycling is, “faster than a walk, slower than a train, and slightly higher than a person.”

From the 80s to 2023, Byrne has traveled quite a long way from outlandish large suits to well-fitted attires. But it seems, a monochromatic look is what Byrne prefers the most these days, given he wore white not just to the Met but also to the Oscars this year. Even during his performance at the Academy Awards, he was seen ruling the stage in white. He performed ‘This is Life’ at the award ceremony.
