Greg Potter is a Kayak fisherman based in New Zealand. He records his fishing adventures on his YouTube channel and has a significant following. During one such adventure, he bit more than he bargained for. His attention was drawn to a seal engaged in a desperate bid for survival as it darted through the water. An unrelenting shark was hot on its tail, with the sole motive to hunt and eat the seal for its sustenance.

The fisherman, a witness to this extraordinary shark attack, watched in sheer amazement. However, he also noticed that each moment drew them closer to his kayak. Unfortunately for the fisherman, the seal veered dangerously close to the kayak’s hull. Just as the situation seemed to reach its peak of intensity, the inevitable happened. The shark made a swift and powerful lunge, striking the kayak in its pursuit of the seal.

With adrenaline surging through his veins, the fisherman wasted no time in making a hasty retreat, paddling away from the scene. Yet, fate had one more surprise in store for him. The shark rammed into the kayak once more. This left the fisherman with a tale of a shark attack adventure that he likely never anticipated when setting out for a day of fishing.

While fishing off the East Cape of New Zealand, I crossed paths with this feeding shark – it was either a great white or a mako… I’m still not 100% sure. The distance I had between myself and the shark was quickly closed when the seal decided my kayak would be a good hiding spot 😂 while I’m glad to have come away unscathed, this was a truly thrilling experience. “

Another user commented, “If Mr. Shark had figured out what was easier to catch- seal or you, be game over.” The Kayaker had to admit that this user was not wrong. 

Another user pointed out how lucky the fisherman was that it was a juvenile shark, and not a fully-grown one. “Great footage, you really got massive balls to get this close. I guess it’s luck that it was a small juvenile shark that rammed your kayak. If it’s much larger great white ( 15-18 ft.), it could really flip your kayak upside down dude.”
