On Saturday, a severe storm hit the port city of Bahia Blanca, causing the roof of a sports club to collapse and resulting in 13 fatalities. The city experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds, causing widespread damage and interrupting electricity, which has yet to be restored. Firefighters and other rescue teams are currently at work to help those affected by the storm. Amidst the troubled times, the Mayor shared his condolences to the deceased’s families via his X (twitter) profile.

Mayor saddened by the unexpected loss at roller skating stadium

According to the AFP news, the intensity of the storm reached 87 miles(140 kmph) as it wreaked havoc across the city. Unfortunately, the roller skating stadium was full of spectators when the roof collapsed as a display of roller skating was underway at the time of the tragedy. Sources confirmed the death count, further, stating that more people were trapped inside the stadium. Such an unexpected tragedy shocked the entire city.

Federico Susbielles took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and expressed his condolences while addressing the issue. The Mayor stated, “It is with great pain that I have to say that the deaths of 13 people have so far been confirmed.”  He further asked the residents of the city to be extremely cautious and stay within their homes. 

Susbielles also informed that rescue operations and other necessary measures are in full flow. Army, firefighters, civil defense, police along the government are working hand in hand to provide assistance wherever required. 

The municipality also issued a separate statement which read, “Unfortunately, the emergency service confirms the death of 13 people in the Bahiense del Norte club.”  As the visuals of the ferocity of the storm came to light via social media, the President of the country commented on the matter.

Argentine President extended sympathy in tough times

Social media users brave enough to record the storm got everyone’s attention as they uploaded their videos. The clips showed the destructive nature of the storm, which the locals termed a “tornado.” Looking at such visuals, President Javier Milei promptly addressed the situation. While extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, he mentioned that the area is still under orange alert.

Milei further advised the masses to check the weather update for further information and not leave their houses till noon. The National Cabinet is assisting the state and regional authorities in implementing proper damage control measures.
