Have you ever thought how an ordinary hike might take a dangerous turn? The element of risk comes hand in hand with any adventure sport. The number of people taking up hiking as their hobby has been increasing lately.  However, as more people head towards the cliffs, there has been an increase in fatalities related to hiking. 

A routine hike took a dramatic turn in the wilderness of Sleeping Beauty Mountain. This is an extraordinary tale of survival in the heart of nature. 

The Sleeping Beauty survival saga

Fort Ann, New York is a heaven on earth for adventure seekers. A woman from Saratoga Springs found herself in a situation of distress on a fateful Sunday evening. She went to the Sleeping Beauty Mountain for a trek. As the sun set below the horizon, the journey of a 30-year-old hiker to reach the peak took an unexpected turn. She was fighting against the grip of heat exhaustion. Each step on the rugged terrain posed a challenge to her. 

In the crucial time of distress, dedicated Forest Rangers Carabetta and Nahor emerged as her lifeline. Alongside, the EMS team and the local fire came to her rescue. They located her about a mile up the trail of the mountain.

It is a treacherous path for hikers to reach the summit of the Sleeping Beauty Mountain. With large rocks, snow, ice, and slush it is an adverse challenge for hikers to hike the mountain.

The relentless heat and exhaustion of the wilderness made her feel nauseous. Dehydration began to set in. High on the lush trail, the first responders continued their mission until they reached the weary hiker. After they rescued her, they tried to provide aid as she was suffering from dehydration.

The woman was then immediately carried to the trailhead. An ambulance was waiting there to provide medical support to the hiker.

A similar incident happened at the same spot a few years back. A driver with his Ford F-350 went up the terrain to scale the mountain.

He lost his way in the wilderness and was left stranded for quite a few hours. Until the Terrace Search and Rescue team saved him. 

After the recoverers came to the driver’s rescue, he was immediately admitted to the hospital. Although he sustained minor injuries doctors assured the rescue team that he would be doing fine. 

Adventure seekers must not be deterred from hiking following these reports. Rather, it should help them to take necessary precautionary measures to hike more safely.
