Cyclist forced to quit owing to medical conditions?

32-year-old Wesley Kreder is a Cofidis Rider hailing from The Netherlands. He is one of the most prominent names in the world of cycling and has many notable achievements to boast about. As Kreder is very passionate about cycling, he enjoyed his stint thoroughly. However, little did he know that a heartbreak was waiting for him down the lines.?

In the most unfortunate incidents, the Dutch cyclist suffered from a heart condition last month. According to reports, the 32-year-old was hit by myocarditis. Doctors have reported that in such a condition, inflammation develops in the heart muscles, causing some serious problems. Kreder was immediately taken to the hospital on August 28. After receiving adequate treatment for more than 7 days, the cyclist was finally discharged on September 6.?

Unfortunately, things did not seem to be like before at all. Kreder was out of danger, but he was advised by his doctor not to step into the cycling world again. Kreder was stunned by this sudden news and did not know how to react. Gradually, he realized the importance of taking care of his own well-being for the sake of his family. Kreder stated that although hard, he was ready to make the sacrifice to prioritize his health.?

An interesting point to note here is that the curious case of Wesley Kreder is not an exclusive one in the cycling realm. In recent times, there have been several instances where cyclists have hung up their boots due to medical conditions. Let?s take a look at them now.?

Nathan Van Hooydonck was surprised when he was involved in a crash recently. While investigating the root cause, a bizarre reason came up: a heart muscle anomaly. The gravity of the situation demanded an induced coma, following which the 27-year-old was discharged without any serious concerns. However, Hooydonck had to retire from cycling, as continuing the sport might have taken a serious toll on his already existing heart condition.??

Apart from this, Sep Vanmarcke from Israel was also diagnosed with a tissue scar on his heart. Following the dreaded footprints of Wesley Kreder and Nathan Van Hooydonck, Vanmarcke, too, hung up his boots.?
