Part of what makes soccer so globally popular is the drama. And there is nothing more dramatic than a red card on a football pitch. Every time a soccer player is shown the red card, it is followed by moments of shock and disbelief. It’s almost as if the offense didn’t take place. But that is so insignificant compared to this scenario.
Soccer is drama. It’s slow, and confusing, like what art is supposed to be, or perhaps cinema in the 50’s. But all that, the paradoxical steadiness, the hymns sung by the crowd, to the lyrical beauty of its commentary, all complement each other to provide that drama for 90 straight minutes with one ad break in between. But the true beauty of soccer lies in its absurdity, as one will find out.
Is that legal in soccer?

A yellow card in soccer is given for a minor offense that is not serious enough to be given a red card but serious enough to be issued an official warning. A red card is the ultimate punishment. Upon receiving it, a player has to leave the field of play. They cannot participate in the game anymore, and their team is reduced to 10 players. Seems, reasonable, doesn’t it? But the difference between a yellow and red card is a very thin line.
Case in point, what just transpired here- a soccer game between Chile and Venezuela was stopped for a minute when Chilean player Marcelino Núñez was initially shown a yellow card after what appears to have been a bad tackle. on his part. It probably was a mistimed tackle, the Venezuelan player seemed to be in a lot of anguish. And so the referee showed him a yellow card. But then, something happens, and the man gets shown a straight red.
You see, one can’t touch the referee in a manner that can be construed as demeaning or insulting. And this goes for all match officials. They are off-limits. One can’t lay a hand on them, or you risk having your team play with one man short!

Marcelino Núñez was sent off after 13 minutes and 46 seconds of coming on as a halftime substitute in Chile’s 3-0 loss to Venezuela. he got one yellow card for the foul he committed. When the referee showed him the card, Núñez did the not-so-wise thing and shoved like he were a drinking buddy. Plot twist: he wasn’t.
Fans have been having a gala time watching this video
Once the red card was shown, Núñez had to walk off the field. Although, he still did try and explain to the referee but it was all in vain. Once that red comes out, you just have to walk! Regardless, people have been having fun at their expense. But mostly, they have been agreeing with the decision.
That's a proper red, you don't disrespect the referee like that

People are surprised that Nunez was surprised to have received a red card after pushing the referee.
Why is he surprised after pushing the ref multiple times?🤣🤣🤣

It’s simple. You’re not allowed to touch the referee. It’s not the offside rule. It shouldn’t be that confusing.
To be honest it should have been a straight red and not a second yellow. You can’t insinuate a push of a referee even if it is with 4 fingers you’re not allowed to touch the ref. Straight red imo 🟥

It doesn’t make any sense. Why would you get physical with the referee? What did he think was going to happen?
What’s he shoving the ref for?😅😅

Some people think he should have gotten a red a long time ago.
Poke 1 (Assault) could have been a straight Red Card, but instead of thanking the Referee for his generosity with only a Yellow at Poke 2 he decided to get in Poke 3.
He seemed surprised when the Ref opted for the second yellow followed by the Red. 🧐 https://t.co/UizZxsBTi7

It’s just assault.
Indeed, they should make a real example of him. He was probably unaware that what he did was assault but he'll probably know now.
Not dissimilar to the @LFC left back assaulting the AR recently on that occasion the AR used reasonable force to defend himself.

What do you think? Should that have been a red? Was the referee too harsh on the player? What would you have done? Let us know in the comments.
