Home/Soccer

Although soccer isn’t for everyone, everybody loves a great goal. A great goal celebration? Even better! People love to see scorers and their teams go berserk with their hands in the hair, shouting in delight. However, one part that often gets lost is how the slo-mo replay even captures the post-goal celebration.

It shows the crowd, the bench, and most importantly, the players feeling their wildest emotions in the most detailed, cinematic manner possible. You could easily imagine the visuals being backed by a hauntingly beautiful orchestral soundtrack, lush with the symphonies of over a thousand instruments – each to symbolize the thoughts and feelings of every individual present.

Don’t worry though, on the off-chance you’ve never witnessed the spectacle, allow comedian Karl Porter to demonstrate with frightening accuracy.

The Accuracy of The Slo-Mo

While the celebrations are displays of overwhelming joy, they aren’t necessarily inherently funny. So Porter came to Up The Creek in London with his best impression locked and loaded. He started the bit with a humble brag, piquing the crowd’s curiosity by asking if they would like to his impression. With everyone in favor – as was evident with the cheering – Porter slipped seamlessly into character before his demonstration.

In the blink of an eye, Porter began to imitate – at the pace of a slug – the motions that a footballer would go through in light of a goal-scoring opportunity. He began running down the pitch with his eyes on the ball. He absolutely nailed the motion, while also getting the arm movements and facial expressions spot on. With the goal-scoring segment wrapped up, he moved on to adopt a look of pure joy while pretend-running down the pitch yet again.

He then wrapped it all up with a pretend knee slide followed by a sign of the cross to thank the heavens.

How the audience received the joke

While the crowd absolutely loved the absurd demonstration, people online were even bigger fans once the clip went viral. Some fans even broke down their parts of the bit – from the concentrated expression to the swift transition to the pure joy of having scored. Safe to say that the comedian had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Our favorite part of this entire bit was certainly Porter’s ability to convincingly run around on the spot in slo-mo. While there’s unfortunately not much more to this bit. You can follow Karl Porter on social media while also possibly catching him honing his stand-up craft on a stage with a mic. And if this bit was anything to go by, you’d definitely want to be a part of this experience.
