The entire soccer community woke up to horrible news on the morning of July 5th. John Berylson, the beloved owner of Millwall Football Club was no more. The club is highly popular in the United Kingdom, especially in the northern region.

According to police reports, the businessman was driving his vehicle alone in Falmouth, Massachusetts and crashed into a tree. It is understood that the 70-year-old’s vehicle flipped on the road before fatally ramming into the tree after he lost control of his SUV.

John’s sudden and tragic passing will unquestionably impact all those who were fortunate to have known him,” Millwall said in a statement.

He was a truly great man, incredibly devoted to his family, and a person of such remarkable generosity, warmth, and kindness. He lived a storied life, one full of colour and joy, and was infinitely thoughtful of others with an endless desire to share his immense knowledge and experiences to help people.

Tributes to the family from all across the globe

Tributes to the renowned owner poured in social media and users made their feelings about the tragic loss evident. There were soars of heartfelt messages flooding twitter and many top Premier League clubs too posted on their pages in honor of him.

Chelsea FC posted a touching message on his tragic demise and sent their condolences to the family.

West Ham United also posted on twitter, sending prayers and respect.

 

Leeds United too paid their respect to the family and also passed their condolences to all Millwall fans.

Liverpool FC too posted a message for the family and fans, sharing their condolences on the sudden demise of a beloved person.

John reveled in the club’s underdog status and mentality. He related strongly to such values and identity and adored Millwall supporters. He was fiercely loyal to all his staff, and both they and the fan base will miss him beyond measure.” read the statement made by Millwall FC.

John joined the team in 2007 after his group was able to acquire significant shareholding of the club. Millwall FC is a part of the EFL Championship, England’s second division, right below the English Premier League.

John leaves behind a family of four, his three children Jennifer, James and Elizabeth and his wife Amy.
