Anyone who is set to attempt a skydive is full of enthusiasm. Surprisingly, one individual is attempting skydiving in memory of a deceased. Losing a child is very horrific. However, turning this agony into a driving force for doing some good is commendable.

Colin Curran, a porter at the Mercy University Hospital, has chosen a unique and heartfelt way to commemorate his late son, Sonny, on what would have been the child’s third birthday.

Colin and his colleagues from the Mercy Hospital will undertake a charity skydive in memory of Sonny. He tragically passed away at just 25 days old due to a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).

The charity skydive is set to take place on September 23rd at the Irish Parachute Club in County Offaly. It aims to support the Mercy University Hospital Foundation’s Kids & Teens Appeal. This event not only honours the memory of young Sonny but also serves as a touching tribute to a little boy. He left a profound impact on his family and the Cork Northside community during his brief time on Earth.

Colin Curran, a resident of Knocknaheeny, will be joined by his colleagues. It includes Phil Aldridge, Evan Cashman, James Taylor, Micheal Murray, and Jimmy McCarthy, all hospital porters at the Mercy. Additionally, Jason O’Sullivan, a healthcare assistant from the Mercy University Hospital, will participate in the charity skydive to contribute to this meaningful cause.

A good deed to remember his kid

Colin expressed his sentiments regarding the upcoming skydive, saying, “Each year, my wife Karen and I especially commemorate Sonny’s birthday. This year, I am grateful that my colleagues from The Mercy, a hospital deeply cherished by our local community, will join me in paying tribute to Sonny’s memory by taking to the skies. The funds we raise will provide crucial support to other families. This will help the people who are struggling with sick children at The Mercy, helping them navigate this challenging period in their lives with greater comfort.
