Lestyn Lewis, a renowned bath-rugby player, has achieved a significant milestone by skydiving from a height of 24000 feet. Lewis performed the jump, all the while holding a bath rugby ball in his hand throughout his fall! According to the reports, the dive was performed near Mt. Everest, while a customized harness helped Lewis clinch the ball while having a great fall. 

The retired athlete took the plunge in order to raise money for charity. All the money would be transferred to the Bath Rugby Foundation, which supports the well-being of the specially abled children in Somerset. 

Skydiving above Mt. Everest: An experience of a lifetime

Lewis stated that although the thrill was out worldly, he would probably not engage in such an adventure in the future. However, jumping out of the helicopter at 24000 feet with a temperature of minus 30 degrees surely did test the nerves of the former athlete. Reflecting on his thrilling experience, Lewis stated that at the moment of the jump, he felt nothing but fear. However, once he was afloat, he knew that there was only one way down.

To further detail his feeling at the time of his descent, Lewis said, Tumbling through the skies at up to 180mph and at a temperature of minus 30 degrees, unsurprising made me lose my bearings and I couldn’t hear a thing, but once I’d settled into the experience, I was able to witness the most amazing views.”

Lewis’ dive ultimately paid off as he managed to accumulate more than £24000 for the betterment of the children in Somerset. According to reports, the Bath Rugby Foundation extends their services to approximately 4000 youngsters to inculcate and introduce them to sports and in the process, boost their confidence. Appreciating Lestyn Lewis’ attempt, the head of the organization expressed her gratitude.

Helen Coury works as the Head Of Fundraising at the Bath Rugby Foundation. She was overwhelmed to learn about the initiative taken by Lewis. In a statement, Coury stated that when the plan was being conveyed, it seemed unrealistic to her.

While thanking him, Coury said: We’re delighted to have Iestyn back in one piece and want to thank him for his outstanding fundraising efforts for our cause.” She also stressed on the fact that finance would be useful in meeting the needs and bringing in changes for the vulnerable sections of society.

Having already been successful, Lewis now aims to raise £29031.69, which is the altitude of Mt. Everest.
