When senility is spent strolling around in a wheelchair, a 100-year-old resident of Florida, Glendine Hamilton decided to celebrate her 100th birthday uniquely. 

Hamilton made a bold declaration not with words or cakes but by taking a giant leap from a plane at Skydive DeLand. Her decision defied the conventional boundaries of age and served as a reminder that the greatest adventures know no bounds no matter how many years one has lived.   

Leap of faith defies expectations

The notable skydiving endeavor took place on January 2, Tuesday, on the auspicious day of her centenary. The Florida native dived headfirst as her friends and family cheered for her from the ground. Her age failed to dampen her unwavering determination and her insatiable appetite for excitement. 

On being interviewed about the purpose of this skydiving adventure, Hamilton’s answer reverberated with her infectious enthusiasm as she replied, “Just cause, why not”. Hence, her decision to skydive was prompted by her personal desire and not by her desire for validation or solicited advice. 

Unfazed by conventional expectations or concerns owing to her old age, the skydiver made an extraordinary landing. Even though Hamilton refused to consult her husband, he stood there proudly among the supporters. Known as the worldwide center for parachute equipment and development, Hamilton thoroughly received help from Skydive DeLand. 

A skyward celebration

Hamilton received assistance from one of her close friends, who helped her in donning the skydiving suit before her ascent. Besides, her male instructor at Skydive DeLand was a source of inspiration all throughout her endeavor. Other employees of the skydiving organization ensured to provide a comfortable yet thrilling dive to Hamilton.

When asked about her skydiving experience, she jubilantly expressed it as “It’s fierce… strong and I loved it. I love it every bit.” Even though this time marked her third attempt at skydiving . The adrenaline rush she experienced this time added a special touch as she reached a milestone in her life. 

Accomplishing the thrilling feat, Hamilton ensured to leave a message for the aspiring skydivers, “Let’s put it this way so others can see that it’s possible if they want to do it.” Captured by the Skydive Deland videographer, her jubilant expressions spoke volumes about her soaring joy in the air.

Hamilton’s smile radiated sheer delight as she triumphed in her sky-bound journey transcending boundaries of old age and decripitude. She has etched her name beside Raymonde Sullivan, a World War II nurse who celebrated her 100th birthday at Skydive Sebastian in May 2022. Through this skydiving adventure, she urged individuals to redefine boundaries and embrace the exhilarating unknown.
