While speaking about the skydiving incident, Spinell reflected on several personal and sensitive issues. However, after having a few minutes of discussion with natives from other countries, the harsh reality strikes about how the USA is perceived in a negative connotation by others.

According to Spinell’s accounts, the guide initiated a candid conversation as they hung mid-air. However, as the conversation proceeded, things began to take a weird turn. When Spinell stated that she worked as a school teacher in the US, the guide immediately asked her whether she was afraid to go to work every day. He said, Aren’t you terrified to go to work every day?” Hearing such a terrifying question, Spinell felt uneasy. She later stated that while the statement might not entirely be false, the timing when it was asked did not contribute to lifting Spinell’s mood.

Spinell, speaking on the incident, stated, “I was skydiving, falling out of the air with this man who jumps out of a plane like nine to 14 times a day, and he was the one asking me as a teacher in the United States if I was terrified to go to work every day.” To those unknown, the guide was referring to the growing incidents of shooting inside the school premises. While the government has taken strict measures, such incidents have significantly haunted the citizens in the past.

US school shooting a reason for concern

According to a shocking analysis from Education Week, it was revealed that as many as 37 cases of shootings inside schools were reported in 2023 alone. Such a number is not only startling but has also kept the citizens on edge about the gun policy and regarding the safety of their wards in schools.

As a matter of fact, the numbers for 2023 are not exclusive. The Education Week has been conducting such studies since 2018, and each year has painted a sorry picture. 2022 recorded the highest cases of school tragedies at 51. Subsequently, there were 24 incidents in both 2018 and 2019, 35 instances in 2021, and 10 in 2020.
