Inviting a revamped coaching staff, iconic 23-year head varsity coach Stacy Monteiro marked her departure. The decision has everyone dumbfounded, sending shockwaves through the program.
After the dynamic decision was announced, athletic director Ray Pappalardi took charge of elaborating on the matter further. Joined by a hiring committee that included returning cheerleaders, he embarked on an enhancement campaign. As a team, they focused on rebuilding and redefining the program’s future. The shuffle witnessed the appointment of Varsity Head Coach Franny Donahue, assisted by Heidi Lajqi. Program assistant Arianna Mafes and junior varsity coaches Allie Genova and Alexis Valencia were among the other new recruits.

During her tenure, Monteiro had successfully created a formidable foundation for the young cheerleaders in over two decades. The Scarsdale High cheerleaders’ journey included a notable milestone in 2008 when they secured a spot in the UCA Nationals semifinals. Since 2018, the team has also consistently reached the semifinals in the traditional category.
However, success for the Scarsdale cheerleading program has never been about shortcuts. The winning zone was on and off the mat, with the world adapting to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Impressively, the team’s resilience was evident when they continued navigating through injuries, illnesses, and even the disruption of UCA Nationals. With Monteiro on their side, the cheerleaders smelled the sweet scent of efficiency.
