No matter how much you excel in life, fate has its role to play. In a bewildering turn of events, a 16-year-old Texan sensation passed away shortly after clinching victory in the world of high school athletics. 

A sophomore at Chisholm Trail High School, Angel Hernandez had completed a five-kilometer run followed by which he collapsed. The article chronicles the details that led to such a fatal outcome along with the impact brought about by his death on the community.

The district track event that Hernandez participated in, took place on October 13 in Haltom City, Tarrant County. Everyone basked in the joyous celebration of his victory after he completed the challenging five-kilometer run, surpassing his own record.

However, it was short-spanned since moments after the victory, the young athlete collapsed.  

His friends and the onlookers present at the scene accompanied him to the water station where he underwent another fall. Realizing that something was gravely wrong with his health, Hernandez was rushed to Medical City Alliance where he passed away within an hour despite of sincere efforts to revive him. 

For his close ones, it is difficult to accept the sudden demise of a student-athlete who was liked by all and has been a good student.

As per the reports of the Daily Mail, Hernandez’s previous track coach said in an interview with KHOU, “He worked hard and cared about the teammates. But then he also acted right in school and took care of his grades.”

Hernandez has been known for his versatility and did not restrict himself to running. Being a student of the Texas School of Karate, he aimed to upgrade himself continuously by trying new co-curricular activities. Hence, his unexpected death has left a deep mark on the community as tributes poured in the memory of a promising young talent.

Ashley Wood, the coach of the young athlete said, “It’s comforting to know that his reach went even far beyond what we knew, even outside of martial arts and even outside of him running cross country.”

The karate community rallied to support his family during distressful times and Wood established a GoFundMe page through which $12000 has been raised to date.  All these circumstances in a way prompted the office of the Tarrant County Medical Examiner to investigate Hernandez’s demise to determine the cause behind his death.

The fact that the young spirit touched everyone he came in contact with during his short span of life encouraged the community to unite. His reach extended beyond sports and will continue to inspire and uplift everyone who crossed his path.
