The English summer saw its fair share of controversies recently. Especially with the recent Ashes cricket series going on, one controversy that riled up even the UK Prime Minister was the run out of Jonny Bairstow.
The Australians have no plans to take his comments chin down, especially the local Rugby Teams. Watch how Canberra Raiders, one of Australia’s professional rugby teams, mocked this incident.

The Canberra Raiders just created a funny celebration in solidarity with the Australian Cricket Team. In their NRL game against St George Illawarra Dragons, they recreated the controversial run out of Jonny Bairstow.

After the Raiders scored in the ninth minute, thanks to New Zealand winger Jordan Rapana, the team took to their pre-planned positions. Rapana took the place of Australian Bowler Cameron Green, Zac Woolford took the place of Alex Carey, the wicket keeper.

Funnily enough, there was an Englishman in the Raiders team, Elliot Whitehead, who also took part in the celebrations. He played the role of Jonny Bairstow, his countryman and the wicket keeper batsman for the English Cricket team.
Piers Morgan took offense to Whitehead participating in the celebrations, calling him a “Closeted Australian”
Just found out the batsman in this shameful spirit-of-the-game mocking stunt is not only ENGLISH, but a YORKSHIREMAN. What on earth are you doing Elliott Whitehead? Are you a closet Australian? pic.twitter.com/BvT1008Gmf

The Australian Rugby Team hit two birds with one stone, as this “Try Celebration” is also a part of a regional promotion by Sportsbet. For every try celebration in July, Sportsbet would be coughing up $5000 for a very noble cause.
Nathan Stapleton and Daniel Anderson, both Rugby professionals, had unfortunate accidents that left them quadriplegics in 2022. The money would go to aid their recovery efforts.
English Batsman Caught Napping
If you’re unaware of what the controversy is, it has to do with a bizarre wicket that happened during the second Ashes test match, late last week.
In the last day of an evenly poised match, England were looking like they could win the match. With captain Ben Stokes and Wicket Keeper Batsman Bairstow on the crease, they needed about 180 runs with a little under a day’s play left to chase.

Bairstow seemed to have a brain fade, after ducking from a bouncer of Cameron Green’s last ball of the over. He began walking out of the crease, without checking where the ball is.

Shrewd Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey grasped this opportunity with both hands, and immediately threw the ball at the stumps, running out Bairstow in the process.
This sparked a huge controversy, as Bairstow obviously had no intention of going for a run. He simply thought that the over was completed, and took a stroll to talk to his partner Ben Stokes.
This led to the Australians clinching the game, edging closer to an away Ashes victory that has eluded them for 22 years.

This infuriated quite a lot of Englishmen, including the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. When interviewed on this, Prime Minister Sunak chewed no words in criticizing the move, believing this to be in violation of the spirit of the game, and he “simply wouldn’t want to win a game in the manner Australia did.”
