The Irish national broadcasting institute RTE once again finds itself rife in controversy. The organization has been under heavy scrutiny recently, over the fraudulent and controversial payments made amounting to a massive $380,000.
Amidst such heavy criticism, veteran sports presenter Marty Morrissey admitted to accepting a car as a form of payment for hosting a number of events from the automobile giant Renault. In a statement to the media, Morrissey mentions that he followed all company procedures in landing the contract and was granted permission by RTE in 2017.

He returned the car to Renault following the scathing discovery of the unsolicited payments made in June and came clean to the organization and the public. RTE was not aware of the kickback of the car, although the terms of the work contract between the two were final. The revelations were made during the meeting of the Oireachtas (Ireland Parliament) media committee. He offered an immediate apology to RTE and describes the action as an “error of judgement”. In an attempt to save his now tampered image, he adds that he neither accepted money as a form of payment nor received any allowance for maintenance of the vehicle.
In his statement to the media, Morrissey said: “As far as I was concerned, my use of the car was always a very ad hoc arrangement which did not affect my work with RTÉ.” “It was never my intention to let anyone down, least of all myself.”
The host claimed that he had expressed regret to his coworkers for “any embarrassment or difficulty” the incident may have brought about.

Journey to restore public faith begins now
The revelations of misconduct came to the fore with RTE getting a new director general, Kevin Bakhurst. His primary role, he mentions, is to restore trust and integrity of the organization and establish a proper code of conduct. Talking to the media after the committee meeting, Bakhurst said: “My job is to restore trust, clearly that’s been severely damaged. Again, I apologise for that. But that’s my job, to restore trust in this organisation.”

The meetings brought to table the score of fraudulent activities being conducted. Payments of $6000 for flip-flops and $23000 on various concert tickets.
The new director general has a massive task of restructuring the system of the organization and improve the culture between executives, board members and the employees.
