In a tragic turn of events, Frank-James McCaffery of the Portadown GAA club has met his untimely demise. He was one of the most talented and promising young players in the club. McCaffery was part of the GAA club named Tír na nÓg. After the news of his death came to light, the entire community was shocked to hear about the loss. The teenager left his earthly abode on Sunday, 17th December 2023. The Portadown GAA club has extended their condolences to the deceased’s family.
McCaffery was born to Francis and Jean, who were still unable to fathom what had transpired. The young athlete also had two siblings, namely Rosa and Haley, who will miss him dearly. He is fondly remembered by his grandfather Jim McParland and other members of his family.

Right from his initial days, the young player stood out among the pack. His aggressive style of play lovingly earned him the nickname ‘Frank the Tank’. He did justice to his name by reflecting his talents on the pitch for his team. McCaffery was one of the players who played a vital role in the team’s double championship in the U-14 category and a championship in the U-16.5 category.

McCaffery’s club expressed their sadness and paid tribute to the young soul via a statement. The statement read, “The committee, members, players and coaches of Tír na nÓg are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Frank-James McCaffrey.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to Frank James’ mother Jean, father Francis, sisters Hayley and Rosa, cousins and players Joe, Tom and Sam and the entire family circle.” It further sheds light on McCaffery as a person.
According to the statement, the youngster was a jovial and vibrant person who would always carry a smile. The club reminisced the days when McCaffery would step in to lighten the moods of his teammates when things were gloomy. They further attributed the young athlete as a “laid back laid” who proved his mettle on the pitch.

The athlete received a host of tributes from his near and dear ones. One such message reiterated the fact that he was a great talent and was one of the most beloved characters off the pitch. The Facebook fan page of Armagh stated that the news was a heartbreaking one and they further asked McCaffrey’s family to stay strong.
Maghery GAC reflected that this was one of the gloomiest phases of the club. The statement further sheds light on the fact that other members of the team are mentally exhausted after hearing about the loss of their peers.
