Nigeria Premier Football League Launches Anti-Doping Campaign In Bid to Clean Up The League

They have also recently acquired state-of-the-art testing kits from the UK, in preparation for carrying out comprehensive tests.

NPFL Chairman, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, articulated the league’s vision during his visit to support Rivers United in their CAF Confederation Cup qualifier against Etoile Filante. The NPFL aims to collaborate with government agencies to launch an enlightenment campaign, utilizing stadium boards and various media channels. This campaign will not only raise awareness but also emphasize the league’s commitment to eliminating illicit drug use among players.

The Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi, revealed that clubs will receive a memo notifying them of the commencement of doping tests with a two-week notice. This proactive approach allows players to detoxify their systems before undergoing testing. Additionally, personnel are currently undergoing training on how to operate the testing kits effectively. Owumi sternly warned that players who fail the tests will face the full force of applicable sanctions. This methodical approach ensures that the implementation of random doping tests is systematic and fair, leaving no room for ambiguity.
