The sudden death of former Wildcats assistant coach Antoine Carter sent shockwaves through the Los Angeles community. His last coaching stint was with St. James High School, where he left a significant mark. Faculty and students of the high school were in dismay after receiving the news.
Coach Carter was a great personality, and his coaching has helped a multitude of students both on and off the field.

Coach Carter was a very inspirational coach, and he worked really hard for his students. St. James? principal Shane Kliebert spoke about how coach Carter dedicated countless hours to mentor student athletes, on and off the field. His passion for the sport was unmatched, and he was a great servant to the school. His services will never be replaced.
LaVanta Davis was the head coach and his heart swells with pride as he talks about his companion who coached students selflessly.
He expressed great grief while speaking to the media, ?This is hard. I?ve been knowing him since 1996,? Davis said of Carter. ?We met at Southern University. He went to Carver and I went to L.B. Landry. Then we coached together at Istrouma, Scotlandvillle and West St. John. Our paths went in different directions for a while. He was at East St. John. But then we came back together here at St James.”

Los Angeles community comes together for a good cause
Coach Carter’s demise is a huge loss to the Los Angeles community. He was a true inspiration, a support system and a person who was looked up to by his students.
As a memory to remember him by, the original goal of $7,000 is now just a footnote as Sid Edwards? first fundraiser as football coach at Istrouma winds down, as a trust fund. Going into its final two days, the verticalraise.com fundraiser had managed to raise slightly under $23,000 in donations. There was one contribution of $5000 made over the weekend, but most of the contributions were anonymous.

This event was powered by Facebook and it received nearly 448 social media shares by Thursday. The raised funds will be put to use fruitfully through purchase of new athletic equipments, and also some recreational stuff such as food and drinks for the players during their summer workouts.
