When Sacramento Kings were fighting against their rivals and set the field on fire, a gunman went berserk, killing at least 22 people. The open fire incident took place across various locations situated 2400 miles away from Lewiston. During the press conference, Brown appeared to have been devastated by the incident.

In one of his interviews with NBC Sports, Brown shared his views, “It’s a sad day. It’s a sad day for our country. It’s a sad day in this world. And until we decide to do something about it, the powers that be, this is going to keep happening. And our kids aren’t going to be able to enjoy what the United States is about because we don’t know how to fix a problem that’s right in front of us. It’s sad. I feel for the families. I don’t know what else to say.”

The heartfelt words by Brown resonated with his emphasis on the ongoing socio-political issues about mass shootings. Hence, the coach emphasized that in the wake of such a distressing time the victory on the court seemed irrelevant.
