Jorge Martin persevered and ultimately proved himself to be a true champion! After going into the Indonesian GP with the championship lead, and the pole for the weekend, he couldn’t have asked for a better start then. However, a costly mistake in Mandalika, cost him the race, causing him to DNF, ceding the MotoGP championship lead to his rival Francesco Bagnaia. After finishing 5th in Australia, once again behind Bagnaia, things went from bad to worse for him due to poor management.
Things were looking bleak this weekend. He had to win in Thailand to regain some steam and put up a fight for the championship. Despite qualifying pole, he had to absolutely nail the Sprints to close the gap to Bagnaia. And win he did. Not only did Jorge win his fifth consecutive sprint, but he also nailed the feature race to bag maximum points this weekend.

Pramac Ducati had a very average start starting from pole. However, despite that, he went aggressive into the first corner, starting to create a breakaway gap. He still had to battle the nerves and the stormy weather at Chang International Circuit, as the final finish was extremely close – 0.933 seconds!

Although it was Luca Marini who started second on the grid, Red Bull’s Brad Binder made a wonderful pass, securing the second position. Most importantly for Martin, his championship rival didn’t have the best of starts either. Starting sixth on the grid, a poor start slipped him back to p8, giving him an uphill task to fight for the weekend.
Going into today’s race, the competition for the championship is hanging by a thread. 18 points is the difference between Bagnaia (369) in P1, and Martin in P2 (351). Again, he had to win the featured race to make the battle even closer.
Intense Fight
In the featured race, Bagnaia wasn’t going to give away a win for his championship rival easily. Till the very end, Brad Binder and Pecco gave an intense chase for winning the grand prix, but Martin stood tall. At one moment, Brad’s P2 finish seemed to close the gap to 9 points, but penalties for track limit violation saw Brad finish in P3.

The Polesitter from the Pramac Ducati again had a very average start. However, he somehow managed to fight Luca Marini into turn 1. Things weren’t all smooth for the Spanish driver, as Binder managed to overtake Martin in lap 20. For a few laps, Jorge had to focus more on defending from Bagnaia, rather than retaking the lead.

In the very last lap of the race, Bagnaia almost pulled off the impossible. He took the lead in turns 9,10 and 11. Martin, catching up, ended up making an aggressive lunge, driving Bagnaia wide, causing him to finish behind Binder.
