The MotoGP universe gathered to bid adieu to an extraordinary season that witnessed thunderous triumphs and mishaps on the track. To celebrate the two-wheeled carnival of champions, the event arranged for an award ceremony and after-party to commemorate the achievements.

Being the cynosure of disputes helped Marquez to land the Agostini Fan Award. The two names most prominent in this season of moto racing were Pecco Bagania and Marquez. Even though aspirations had been high surrounding Baganaia, Marquez succeeded in preserving his place among the top stories concerning crash controversies and his disengagement with the Repsol Honda Team. 

Celebrating champions of the MotoGP 2023

The main highlight of the award ceremony was Bagnaia who was crowned as the MotoGP World Champion for the second time. Besides Bagnaia placing his name on the iconic winner plaque, the other two contenders, Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin secured bronze and silver medals. However, it was none other than the maestro of daring overtakes, Marquez, who soared through fan frenzy. 

Claiming the coveted Agostine Award, based on the voting of the fans, Marquez secured the title for the best overtake of 2023. The motor racer’s journey this season has been subjected to multiple high and low moments. In a close tussle on the track with Bezecchi, fans have condemned Marquez’s action blaming him for the racer’s exit from the MotoGP finale. 

On the other hand, his decision to end his partnership with the Repsol Honda Team after more than a decade brought Marquez a lot of hate from his own fans as well. However, as the Instagram post caption states, “@marcmarquez93 didn’t finish the season empty-handed as he won the Agostini Fan Award!” the racer succeeded in leaving a mark in the hearts of his fans. 

Fan reactions to Marquez’s glory

The fans could not hold their excitement on seeing their favorite moto racer grabbing the fan award. They came up with their own suggestion for award categories like, “Also winning the best gravel eater award”. Others commented about how the merit that Marquez received has been justified, “Well deserved”. However, it is not about the love and support that the racer received. A few MotoGP fans even trolled him for his poor performance this season stating, “I thought he got a prize for MOST CRASHES IN A SEASON”.

Amidst the messages one of the fans even condemned his decision to leave the Repsol Honda Team, “For leaving honda for a better bike? 8 time worlds champs don’t do that.” One of the fans even defended Marquez from the hate comments, “Haters can’t digest the fact that he’s the best. Fill your yellow drips, you will need more tears for 2024.” 

Even though Marquez’s performance had not been satisfactory this season, he has won the hearts of his fans and the award is a testament to the support the racer has received throughout the season.
