The Moto GP is enjoying its boom period and that’s bound to continue for the foreseeable future. The sport has come leaps and bounds in the last few years and it really is no surprise. Since September alone, the sport has traveled from Catalunya to San Marino to India to Japan to Indonesia. The current races are happening in Australia and people are having the time of their lives. And so is Johann Zarco, who is really enjoying himself right now. The Frenchman has become the first Moto GP winner after a last-lap overtake on his team-mate Jorge Martin.

However, as impressive as the race was, many in the audience have been taken by the racer’s celebrations. As races are completed, and spirits are high, we are yet to see what the future holds for Zarco. The victory genuinely meant the world to him, as it was his first in 7 years.

Although Jorge Martin made the perfect start, he could not hold on to it when it mattered most. Similarly, Francesco Bagnaia made an early grab for the number three spot but was too far behind from the top two too early in the race. Soon enough, Fabio Di Giannantonio, who has been in top form for a while now, shot past Bagnaia to the podium places as he made an overtake at turn two. Bagnaia dropped from the top spots under pressure from Johann Zarco, Marc Marquez, and Aleix Espargaro.

Martin even stayed in the lead after the first ten laps, but he succumbed at the last moment to Zarco. The French man was absolutely beaming with pride and joy. Zarco was overwhelmed with his performance, and that was clear for all to see after his celebrations with the fans.

“It’s a good feeling, it’s hard to believe,” Zarco said after hitting a backflip off a wall while celebrating with his fans. “After so many races I finally won. I have to take in the moment. I want to cry, but not at the moment.”

What’s Next for Moto GP

Sydney Motorsport Park was the original host of the Moto GP Australia leg. However, the event was shifted to the Phillip Island Circuit at the last minute over concerns about bad motorsport weather. None of this will matter to Zarco now that he’s taking gold in Australia. “I had a good start and I had to fight at the beginning, then I was quite fast,” Zarco said. “Martin totally went away (in the lead). I was conserving the tires. Then I tried to attack and was surprised to see Martin dropping down, so I knew something was possible,” he added.

The racers are set to move to Thailand for the last circuit of October. In November, an event in Malaysia is set to wrap up the Asian Leg of the tour. Following that, Saudi Arabia and Valencia are next. The Asian leg of the GP has been thrilling, with its ups and downs and last-minute twists. We have been spoiled for choice for a top moment, but it would likely have to be Johann Zarco stealing the #1 sport from Jorge Martin as the race drew to a close.
