While Colin’s lacrosse career was nothing short of incredible, his personal life saw tragedy after tragedy, which led to close friends calling his journey “heartbreaking.”
“I can add that watching Colin’s journey was heartbreaking. He was always a genuine guy who made friends with everyone. Often times we wonder why bad things happen to good people, and this would be a case of that. God put Colin through this situation to show us how good people handle bad situations.” wrote Zach Triner. Triner and Clive played together for Siena in 2011.
Diagnosed in 2018, Colin faced setback after setback, before ultimately passing away on the 3rd of July. As he was battling the illness, his mother passed away from complications due to pneumonia in 2021, and his father passed away six days later after a heart attack. They were 65 and 71 years old respectively.
Coach John Svec, erstwhile Siena coach during his last three seasons said “I remember him going through everything he has the past few years, losing his parents and battling health issues.”
But this didn’t deter Colin or break his spirits. According to close friend and teammate Kenny Carpenter, Clive has never asked “Why me?” He further stated “If you ever asked Colin, ‘Hey, how are you feeling?” he’d stop you right there and say, ‘Well, how are you doing?’ His selflessness was just amazing. He was never one to talk about himself. He always wanted to make sure that you were OK first.”
Carpenter helped Clive organize a Go Fund Me, which raised over $844,000. All unused funds would be donated to the National Brain Tumor Society.

He ranks fifth in the program history, and has helped Siena win MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) championships in ’11 and ’14.
