Renowned Lacrosse Coach Suffers Irretrievable Financial Loss of $250,000 After Fire Engulfs His Residence

A raging inferno engulfed the residence of Jim Berkman, the legendary Salisbury University lacrosse coach. The shocking turn of events led the home of the coach to become an unfortunate site of a raging fire.

While the incident that took place earlier this month led to substantial financial loss in terms of damage caused to the property, the aftermath has been disastrous. This article points out the details revolving around the catastrophe as provided by the deputy state fire marshals.   

A faulty power cord led to the catastrophic blaze possessing Berkman’s house

The flames were so atrocious that they engulfed the entire property and left behind a charred structure denoting the appalling incident. It was after an extensive investigation that helped the investigators trace the fire’s source. A power cord that had been connected to a lamp in the bedroom of the Wicomico County home has catalyzed the heinous accident.

The heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on October 8, shortly before 10 a.m. was responded swiftly by the Salisbury fire crew and they confirmed the news on their Facebook profile. The team constituted 40 firefighters whose determination to put out the flames brought the situation under control. During their action, two of them sustained minor injuries showcasing their heroic effort while attending the situation. 

One of the officials carrying out the investigation shared his view with the Daily Voice stating, “Several fire investigators examined the scene for hours before (determining the cause). The case will now be closed for the Office of the State Fire Marshal with no further agency involvement.”

The loss incurred by the Lacrosse legend

In the world of lacrosse, Jim Berkman holds a prestigious position, and his career is adorned by remarkable accomplishments. The winningest coach in the NCAA men’s lacrosse history, he holds a notable record of 13 national championships and 620 wins as a coach. Later on, Berkman was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2013. 

Even though the firefighters attended to the situation immediately, they failed to save his property from getting gutted down. This resulted in a humongous financial loss staggering to an amount of $250,000 in terms of property damage. Besides, the incident also led to the tragic loss of a pet dog and two pet cats.  

The Berkman family has extended their gratitude as a means of honoring the overwhelming support they received from different sectors to cope with the tragedy. The larger Salisbury area as a community has come forward to inquire about the opportunity of any form of assistance to help Berkman’s family.

The Salisbury University officials have come forward during the time of irreparable loss and have handed out gift cards from local restaurants since the fire took away the functional kitchen from the Berkman family. The practical gesture and the assistance from the community assist the family as they try to return to their normal life followed by the calamity.
