The sport involves teams of 8, comprised equally of men and women, speeding in a velodrome – an arena with steep-banked oval tracks. The duo is aiming to incorporate the facility into a sports and entertainment development. Litchfield businessman Mark Greenberg is committing to build the facility on 150 acres he owns in Windsor. This new development will serve as, both, a league office and a racing site, with the potential to double as a concert and entertainment venue. The facility will be available for basketball, and volleyball among other sports.

What the Future Looks Like

These structures are expected to be constructed by 2026, with an estimated cost of $25-80 million depending on the level of finishes. The league is expected to begin next year, with exhibition matches scheduled for September 2024 in Las Vegas. Greenberg’s vision is to develop a premium sports and entertainment complex for the sport in Windsor.

Both Mayer and Chauner seem to be very excited about the scope of the project. “I just think there’s an incredible amount of momentum in that area,” Mayer said, adding that the investors are looking for new opportunities. Mayer also remains very confident about raising capital for the venture. “I don’t think we are going to have much of a big hurdle raising the funds needed to launch this,” he said.
