In a decisive turn of events, the Canadian Women’s Hockey team took home silver after they lost 2-0 in the finals. They lost against a very strong USA Women’s team. The loss means that Canada lost the final for a second consecutive year. Although the match started on a very even note, the USA dominated the game in the later stages. The USA team had defeated Canada 5-1  in the last year’s final. As a result of which this year’s final became a redemption match for Canada.

Canada team looked compact in defense and handled the pressure very effectively. With just over five minutes left in the game, USA scored the first goal . As a result of which Canada pushed all the players up front including the keeper. However, this tactic failed and the USA scored the second goal and ended the match with a scoreline of 2-0.

Jessie Gregory Delivered a Steller Performance

Canadian goalie Jessie Gregory put up a show in the final. Gregory made 23 saves in the match, making it the highest in the tournament. In the first half itself Gregory made 11 saves and kept her team in the final. It was only in the later stage of the second half where Gregory got beaten by the US forward Kelsey Lee Diclaudio. However entering into the third period, USA already had 21 shots on target.

The USA Women’s team dominated the match with their speed and precision. Both the team’s met in the opening match of the Tournament as well. The USA dominated the match and won the match 2-0, but Gregory made 22 saves in the match.

Star striker of Canada Raphaelle Tousignant kept quiet for the whole match. The USA team’s defensive unit made sure that she does not move an inch. However, she got three back-to-back penalties but could not convert any of them. Canada did not have many shots on goal but enjoyed a fair bit of share of possession. USA’S keeper Hope Bevilhymer had to make only one save in the final third. Canada’s final shot was just deflected over the net before USA scored their second goal.

The tournament is hosted by World Para Ice hockey. The tournament is an important stepping stone for the Women’s Para Olympic world championship. The World Championship will happen in the year 2025. Hopefully, there will be an increase in women’s participation after this event.
