As found out in the audio, Ryan Hartman openly admitted to intentionally attacking his rival, Perfetti by intentionally high-sticking him in the face as a form of retribution. The incident unfolded when the ice hockey player took part in a conversation during the game. He was either unaware or uncaring of the fact that Perfetti was equipped with a microphone. He reiterated what Hartman said, “He said ‘No disrespect, nothing against you, it had to happen, something had to happen for what happened to Kaprizov.’’

This unknowing admission has exposed Hartman in a bad light, questioning his ethics and respect towards the sport. Even though Perfetti had no involvement in the foul play, Hartman now stands at the crossroads of a legal showdown. NHL has swiftly taken the matter its their own hands, imposing a fine amounting to $4,427.08 on the player.

As per reports, the levied amount is equivalent to the maximum penalty allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Hartman would have been exposed to further consequences beyond the fine but as per the 2005 regulations, mic recordings lie beyond the spectrum of disciplinary actions.

Rick Bowness, the Jets’ coach informed that Perfetti decided to withhold Hartman’s admission till the end of the game. According to the coach’s perception, Perfetti’s decision relied on the fact that addressing the issue during the game would have unnecessarily given rise to tension and ultimately delayed the game. Hence, the Jets player decided to adhere to a strategic approach, taking the league into confidence for resolution.
