A sudden crash along the lanes of Sag Harbor sparked chaos on January 5, claiming the life of the unfortunate skater. Urging immediate attention from New York authorities, the accident also involved an elderly driver, igniting further concerns on road safety. 

Racing along the streets near Fourteen Hills Court, the 54-year-old skating enthusiast was caught off-guard when he came across a high-paced car. As he collided against the 2018 Land Rover, this fateful encounter posed severe consequences, cutting his life short within moments. With prior records showing a substantial percentage of road-related skateboarding injuries, the incident triggered security demands among locals. 

Skateboard racing trip turned deadly after car crash

Casting a shadow over the peaceful roads of Middle Lane Highway, the skateboard racing mishap was spotted occurring around 6 on Friday evening. As the 77-year-old car owner, Stephen Breitenbach, kept heading westbound, his trajectory was met with the skater’s paths.

Resulting in a fatal crash, the elderly driver witnessed the racing skateboard lover’s sudden downfall, prompting urgent actions from local officials. However, despite immediate medical help from the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, the skater regrettably succumbed to his grave injuries. 

Declared unresponsive on the spot, the skateboard racing enthusiast was later identified by the authorities as Charles Robbins Reid III, a resident of Geneva. Following this fatal racing collision, the Southampton Town Police Department impounded the involved Land Rover, hoping for a thorough safety check. 

Elevating counts of tragedies spark genuine concerns

While their initial findings reflected no suspension of criminal activities, the officials are still conducting investigations to uncover the roots of the racing tragedy. With the local community mourning the skater’s unprecedented loss, legal services emphasized the need for heightened caution, focusing on both riders and pedestrians.

Significantly, the racing statistics from recent times depicted a risky ordeal, highlighting the turbulent consequences of on-street skating ventures. Recorded a few months ago, a California-based skateboard manufacturer was entangled in serious debates after multiple deaths came under notice. 

Highlighting the modified designs of racing gear, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recorded four casualties from severe skating injuries. With impactful consequences like fractures, ligament damage, traumatic brain injury, and even paralysis, the CPSC urged adventurers to wear helmets for better safety.
