As per the news from Pomeroy Plunkett, Kennedy passed away on Friday, moments after appearing in the handball match. However, the cause of his death has not been confirmed yet. The official statement released by the Plunketts stated that the entire club was in shock following the horrible news. The statement said, “Pomeroy Plunketts are in a profound state of shock after the sudden passing of our club member Brendan ‘Bing’ Kennedy.”
They further described Kennedy as a passionate sports lover who was fond of handball more than anything else. The statement also stressed the character of Brendan ‘Bing’ Kennedy: “It is truly a rare thing in this life to move on from it while doing what you love; Bing Kennedy did just that.” It is also learned from the statement that the 54-year-old left behind his wife Caroline, daughter Fionnuala, a couple of grandchildren, and his son Martin.
Apart from being a master of his game, Kennedy was a skilled professional too. He took on the mantle of the County Board Chair of the GAA Tyrone Club from 2005 to 2010. It was during this time that Kennedy successfully organized the All Ireland Handball Convention for the first time within six countries.
Looking back at his bejeweled career, Kennedy was a true champion.

Kennedy was a skilled handball player right from his younger days. This can be attributed to the fact that he won the 1982 Ulster U13 doubles with Sean McCrory. This triumph earned him the mantle of Tyrone juvenile handball champion. He was also victorious in the Ulster U15 doubles while partnering with the late Bill Corcoran in 1984. ‘Bing’ also holds the record for qualifying in seven straight Ulster finals between 1981 and 1985.
Once he moved on from being an athlete, Kennedy was successful as a coach as well. Being an underage coach, Kennedy expertly managed the senior ladies’ team after helping to establish the team in 2004. Although the 54-year-old took some time away from coaching recently, he was always close to the game. Kennedy loved coaching the kids and was a pillar in developing and expanding the game among girls.
