The GPS location served as a crucial element in helping the rescue operation gain momentum as it also highlighted the importance of technology during emergencies in remote and outdoor settings. The rescue officials banked on the location inputs and the coordinated efforts of the law enforcement department and the rescue officials that saved the life of the young hiker.

The Police Department made a statement to promote awareness for the hikers while they are exposed to outdoor challenges stating, “Hike in groups and make noise to reduce the chance of surprising wildlife. If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run. Instead, stand tall, wave your arms, and speak loudly. Always inform someone about your hiking plans and expected return time.”

Tracking the GPS coordinates, the officials were able to spot the hiker and rescue him safely. However, while the rescue officials were in action, they failed to spot the mountain lion.
