A group of 12 hikers faced their biggest fear Sunday. The group lost their way during the hike at Owl’s Head Mountain in the Adirondack Park. However, the rescue team quickly responded to the help call from the group. The New York State Forest Rangers completed the rescue operation.

According to the reports, the hiking group consisted of members between the ages of 14 – 75. However, the rescue team found the group around 8:45 p.m. They found most of the members in good condition but with limited food supply. The rescue team did a fantastic job in rescuing the group.

Quick Rescue Operation Helped the Hikers

The New York State Forest Rangers initially received a call at 5.35 p.m. After getting the call, the team responded quickly to the matter. They began their search operation instantly, as it was already dark. There have been times previously as well when hikers have lost their path. Hiking is an exciting sport but has its own disadvantages as well. However, the rescue team found the group around 8:45 p.m.

They found the group a couple hundred yards east of the trail. According to details shared by News10, Owl’s Head Mountain is situated in the Sargent Ponds Wild Forest, which is near Long Lake. The main trail of the mountain is around a 6.3-mile hike and is moderately challenging. However, the trail also has an elevation gain of 1,532 feet.

After rescuing the group, they provided the hikers with clothes and headlamps. The rescue team then escorted the group back to the trail. Also, the rescue team made sure that every group member made their way down safely. The whole search operation was completed before midnight, and all the hikers returned home safely. Luckily, no serious health concerns happened during the rescue operations.

A Night Worth Forgetting

All the 12 hikers who lost their way will never want to remember this night again. Although the rescue operation was successful and no serious damage happened. The entire group must have been nervous for the entire time. Also, the age difference in the group hampered their chances of movement. It’s always important to take safety measures while going for such hikes.

Credit has to go to the rescue team who helped the group return to the base. A slight delay in action would have led to many problems.
