AC Sherpa, chairperson of the 7 Summits Foundation, has spearheaded a historic philanthropic event in the United States. Their purpose? To pay tribute to the true heroes of Mount Everest’s ascent – the Khumbu Icefall Doctors. On March 9th, this event will unite individuals in support of these incredible individuals who courageously risk their lives to ensure the safety of climbers.
Renowned talents such as Prakash Saput, Roj Moktan, Subani Moktan, Anjila Regmi, Umesh Rai, and DJ Tenjing will all be in attendance, adding to the excitement and ambiance of the occasion.
Icefall Doctors from Mount Everest to get their due recognition
The American foundation ‘7 Summits’ is in collaboration with K-King for the entire event. A major highlight is the commitment to dedicated philanthropy, with 100% of its proceeds being allocated towards providing comprehensive life insurance packages and constructing vital equipment storage huts for the Icefall Doctors.
The Khumbu Icefall, an imposing barrier standing between Everest Base Camp and Camp 1, presents an immense hurdle for climbers because of its ever-shifting ice formations and treacherous crevasses.
These conditions make the Icefall Doctors absolutely critical in creating and maintaining a safe route through dangerous terrains. From utilizing ropes and ladders to setting up fixed lines, they play an instrumental role in safely guiding climbers.
Through their tireless dedication, the unceasing endeavors of the Icefall Doctors are vital in securing the well-being of mountaineers, taking on the challenge of conquering Mount Everest via the South Col route. Despite their crucial role, these experts often work behind the scenes, their unwavering commitment often goes overlooked.
7 Summits chairman stresses on “responsibility to give back to the community”
To duly recognize and appreciate their irreplaceable contribution, the 7 Summits Foundation has stepped in to provide a comprehensive insurance package to all members of the Icefall Doctors. This robust package includes coverage for accidental death, injuries, medical expenses, and search and rescue efforts.
Collaborating with the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, the 7SF supplements their support by providing funds for securing this crucial insurance coverage. Hailed as a prominent climber himself and the force behind the Foundation, AC Sherpa stresses the significance of giving back. “As a climber myself, it’s my responsibility to give back to the community,” said Sherpa.
With a wealth of experience conquering the tallest peaks, Sherpa comprehends the inherent dangers faced by the Icefall Doctors who brave treacherous terrains to ensure the well-being of others.
The Foundation’s efforts go beyond insurance coverage, as evidenced by their past aid for families affected by tragedies on Everest. In 2017, 7 Summits provided financial support to the families of climbers who tragically lost their lives in an avalanche. It showcased an unwavering dedication to assist those in need within the climbing community.
