Phone Call from Boss Miraculously Saved the Life of a Hiker Who Fell 130 ft in the Pyrenees Mountain Range

Hiking adventure turned into a nightmare! The precariousness of nature, along with the treacherous terrain often leads to devastating incidents. In a similar situation, the Belgian hiker was exposed to dire consequences when he met with a harrowing accident while hiking in the French Pyrenees.

Traversing through the rugged terrain near Campan, the hiker’s venture took a catastrophic turn. A harrowing fall rendered him unconscious, leaving him stranded at the base of the cliff. Unbeknownst to him, a lifeline was about to emerge from an unexpected quarter. Let us delve into this article to know how the situation panned out!

From hiking adventure to surviving the abyss

The 22-year-old hiker from Belgium had set out on his hiking adventure to experience the marvelous landscape and the picture-perfect setting expanding over the vast area of south-western France that is referred to as the Occitanie region. Although the identity of the hiker remains undisclosed, the man soon experiences catastrophe during his thrilling adventure. 

Traversing through the dreadful landscape while climbing near the commune, Campan, the man suffered from an unpleasant fall. After falling approximately 40 meters, equivalent to 131 feet, down the mountainside, out of the sudden impact, the hiker became unconscious and was lying down at the bottom of the cliff. 

The next morning he received a call from his employer. As reported by the Telegraph, a spokesperson on behalf of the mountain rescue service shared his insights with the local newspaper La Dépêche, “He was able to tell us his first and last name, but we were forced to geolocate him in order to know where he was exactly.”

Sudden call leads to unlikely rescue

The hiker was comatose all throughout the night, and it was on the next day he received an unexpected call from his boss. Determined to enquire about why he was absent from work, the sound of the ringing phone from the boss roused the unconscious hiker. On informing his employer about the cliff fall, the boss realized the acuteness of his situation. He then informed the man to contact the emergency services with his phone so that it would be easier for the rescuers to locate him amidst such a diverse area.

Tracing his geolocation, the rescue team swiftly transported to reach out to the hiker and revive him. The team found the hiker suffering from advanced hypothermia and multiple fractures. With prompt service from the medical squad, the injured man was quickly transported to the nearby Pau hospital, which saved his life.

Although technology takes away a lot of our free time, here, in this case, it has played a life-saving role. Besides the swift and effective assistance from the rescue team, luck had been in his favor, turning a phone call into a life-saving miracle.
