When the call for assistance reached the fire department’s notice at around 1:38 in the afternoon, it provoked an urgent mission to bring them back. Despite the HFD’s prompt response with five units and 13 personnel, the scene grew daunting when natural setbacks kicked in.

Fighting the treacherous weather conditions, the hiking rescue team was bound to impede their Air 1 support, delaying the evacuation process. As they tried to reach the hikers’ exact location, these troubled surroundings necessitated a strategic change of plans.

Considering the adverse climatic conditions, they dropped off with plans to continue on foot, sparking a hiking expedition while battling through the elements. As these courageous responders finally made contact with the lost couple at 2:30 p.m., the entire crew’s relief was palpable.
