4-year-old’s epic Everest trek sets a new standard for adventure

What many dream to achieve once in their lifetime, little Zara had managed to accomplish the same at just the age of 4. After a 170-mile-long trek, Zara reached an elevation of 17,598 feet accompanied by her father and her fearless 7-year-old brother. 4-year-old Zara reached the base camp of the world’s highest summit and became the youngest person to have reached Everest’s base camp.

David Sifra, the dauntless father of two, kept checking the oxygen saturation level of both his children throughout the hike. Zara’s father revealed how Zara left behind a few professional trekkers during the ongoing hike. He said, There was no problem during the march, the acclimatization went above average, little Zara, thanks to her very good physical condition, even outpaced, with a few exceptions, hundreds of other trekkers”.

There’s one question that has been running in our minds since the very beginning, and that is how was it possible for a 4-year-old to achieve such an extraordinary feat? In reply, Zara’s father shared that she was brought up in Malaysia, where she followed a very unconventional way of life. And probably the unusual upbringing has helped Zara to achieve the jaw-dropping record.

Zara broke the world record of Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo, who reached Everest’s base camp just at the age of 5. In 2023, then 5-year-old Nikajoo climbed 17,598 ft, creating the world record.

Achieving such a feat at such a tender age is truly remarkable, as trekking to Everest’s base camp can turn out to be extremely dangerous. It can lead to severe altitude sickness and can even take a fatal turn.
