In the world of entertainment, actors as characters often adorn the center stage. However, Jerome Flynn, the rugged Bronn from Game of Thrones transcended from Hollywood on-screen prowess and stepped into real-world advocacy by cheering for Dr. Gail Bardbrook.

Bradbrook is the co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, who was sentenced for her activism against the HS2 project. Hence, Flynn has extended his support by aligning his cause with environmental activism as he joined eco-protestors on December 18 when Bradbrook was given a 15-month suspended sentence.

The notable shift from his on-screen persona highlighted Flynn’s deep commitment to causes beyond the screen. The 60-year-old actor, known for his charismatic portrayal in the web series, had been part of a socio-political hiatus since the mid-90s. He had been a part of the controversial sect under the leadership of American Andrew Cohen.

Drawing inspiration from his activeness beyond the screen, he embarked on a journey from being the heartthrob to becoming an eco-mob cheerleader. Taking a stand and supporting Dr Bradbrook, underscores the actor’s belief in challenging actions that are detrimental to future generations and to nature at large.

In support of the molecular biologist, Flynn in a statement made to the Daily Mail said,I’m here to support my friend Gail, because I’m proud of her and what she and all of these women are standing up for. There’s a crime at the heart of the case and it is not Gail smashing up this window, it’s the plan that HS2 was and still is in part which is a crime against nature, a crime against our children and our futures.” Hence, his presence beside the doctor reflected her stance against the HS2 project.

Dr Bradbrook had taken part in causing damage to a window in the government department during an XR protest. Executing the move, she defended her actions to be proportionate and logical. In her defense, she called attention to the need of urgent action and drew parallels to acquitted eco-activists trials that resonated with Flynn’s support. Previously the actor in collaboration with other celebrities including Chris Packham and Dame Emma Thompson had been spotted outside the Isleworth Crown Court.

Even though Dr Bradbrook’s motivations were rooted in the urgency of taking care of the harmful impacts of environmental causes, the judiciary viewed her actions to be premeditated. They highlighted their decision attributing to the substantial costs for the damage caused. Condemning the action taken against the activists, Packham said, It betrays any kind of ethical consideration and displays an abject disregard for our terrifying reality and the urgent need to address it. Shameful behaviour from the judiciary.” Hence, the critics considered the actions to be historic movements for societal change.
