Losing a child can never be easy. Still, it is an experience many parents go through – be it due to their child’s bad health or bad fortune. Clair Todd knows exactly what this feels like. In 2021, Todd lost her only son Connor to cancer at the age of just 15. Connor was an athlete, with rugby as his choice of sport. He was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in 2019 and faced an uphill battle from the start. Despite, intensive medical therapy, including chemotherapy and surgery, he died in October 2021. Years later, a certain gesture by Clair Todd in memory of her son has gone viral all across the internet.

Now, Clair has taken it into her own hands to raise money to fund cancer research. The 48-year-old, who has a fear of heights, decided to raise funds by skydiving. She even joined a group of mothers to take the plunge, just like she would. What was this experience all about?

Clair Todd wanted to ensure that no child in the world has to suffer from a lack of cancer research. She decided to face her fear of heights while stepping up to this challenge. Despite how petrified Clair said she was about jumping from an airborne plane, she landed the dive successfully, later describing the experience as “exhilarating.”

Fortunately, Clair was not alone. She undertook the task with the ‘Angel Mums;’ a group of fundraising mothers who have all lost children to brain tumors. The group has set out to raise £100,000 for the Tessa Jowell Foundation to improve research and treatments. So far, they have already surpassed an impressive £66,000.

The group jumped from Sibson Airfield from a height of 13,000ft. “We were freefalling for about 30 seconds until the parachute opened and it was hard to breathe. When we landed there was a rainbow and we felt our children were with us,” said Todd as compiled by BBC.

Connor was a Fundraiser himself

Connor himself was an avid fundraiser before he passed. About 7 months before his tragic demise, he challenged himself to walk the distance of a marathon over a month. The fundraiser raised £18,000 for charity. One day, he felt like he was going to give up. He then just convinced himself to keep moving one foot in front of the other.

The Angel Mums have all lost our children to brain tumors and we wanted to help families in the future. It’s too late for our families but it might not be too late for others”, Todd said. Connor was also prescribed medicines made for adults, highlighting the need for research and fundraising. We wish Clair and the Angel Mums the best in their quest to create a better future.
