American football is perhaps one of the roughest and most physically demanding sports. NFL players and even college football athletes are subject to several tackles and maneuvers that can be quite deadly.

While some pundits argue that the existence of this rough style of play is good for the game, some believe it leads to aggressive behavior by the players. A viral clip circulating social media showed one moment where a player’s rage got the better of him during a college football game.

Louisiana players suspended after illegal move

Uploaded on Twitter, now X, the video already has over four million views. It was a football game between Louisiana Tech and the University of Texas. Brevin Randle from Louisiana Tech was the player who committed the illegal stomp. The UTEP offensive lineman Steven Hubbard was on the floor, and Brevin approached him. As he made his way ahead, he stomped on Steven’s head.

The defensive tackle was not called off after the tackle and continued playing. He faced a lot of flak from users online after the video of their interaction went viral.

People called for immediate action

Louisiana Team Director Eric Wood released a statement after the game, revealing that Brevin was suspended.

“Coach (Sonny) Cumbie and I met with Brevin Randle today and informed him that he has been suspended indefinitely because of the incident during last night’s game versus UTEP. In speaking with Brevin, he acknowledges that his action was wrong and understands the consequence of that action.

Our University, athletic department, and football program believe in culture, class, and competitive excellence and in no way was that displayed in that moment.”

Netizens reacted quite harshly to the illegal move made by the college athlete.

Carry called him the Tonya Harding of Football.

Starling said they should deliver the punishment soon.

Jeff said the player needed to be banned and charged for the move.

Chloe wondered if Steven Hubbard was okay after the tackle.

Several football pundits have argued that there is a need to monitor player behavior and draw a line between physicality in the sport and illegal moves. The adrenaline and rage running through players tend to make them go overboard.
