Police have identified the mother of an Ohio State football player as the lady slain in a drive-by shooting on Sunday in West Garfield Park. Ashley Griggs, a Chicago resident in her 40s, was the victim, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
She is the mother of football player Carnell Tate, the Ohio State University has verified in a statement.
“We can confirm this was Carnell’s mother,” it said.

The unexpected and fatal demise has left the family in a state of shock.
Ohio wakes up to tragedy
Just after two in the morning, according to police, people reported a shooting in the 4000-block of West Washington Street. Once there, they discovered a woman who had been shot several times. When she arrived at Mt. Sinai Hospital, they declared her dead. The incident left four other people injured as well.
One of the victims, according to the police, told them the shooter was in a car when they started firing. The car’s description wasn’t immediately available.
The Ohio State’s athletic director issued a statement upon of the tragic incident. He said, “Our coach and coaches are aware of this terrible tragedy, incredibly saddened and they, along with our players, will support Carnell in any way they can during this most difficult time.”

This user provided the most extreme solution to the problem yet. While his suggestions may prove to be extremist, the reason for it is the degree of unsafety and frequency of shootings in the area.
Carnell Tate, son of Ashley, began his studies at Ohio State in January 2023. His high school career began at Marist High School in Chicago, then in 2021 and 2022, he participated in athletics at the IMG Academy in Florida.
The investigation process is under the purview of Area Four detectives and efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators. The police have not taken anyone into custody yet and at the moment do not have any suspects.
