In a recent line of events, a special group of cheerleaders participated in a football match. The match between Eden Prairie versus Edina on Friday witnessed something special. About 10 residents from The Waters Senior Living Community came to support the match. However, this gesture was very special and was welcomed with open arms.

The high schoolers had visited their home in August, and the senior citizens wanted to return the favor. For this match, they made the residents to sit right near the end zone wearing special bleachers.

First football outing after 2019

The Water Senior Living Community has a tradition of watching football matches. They always bring their residents to watch football matches. This tradition got hampered because of the Covid restrictions. Since there were restrictions from 2019 and also health conditions, this was the first time the members went for a match. Moreover, the environment around the stadium was wonderful. The students cheered for their respective teams. However, the senior citizens were also not far behind.

“These are the best seats I’ve ever had,” said Arun Sanade, one of the residents at The Waters. 

The seniors citizens were full of joy enjoying their moment in the field. Mary Stevenson, one of the members of the community, felt nostalgic. The reason being all 4 of her grandchildren passed from Eden Prairie High School.

“It’s nice to hear the noise, the cheering and then all these people – holy moly,” said Stevenson. Some past cheerleaders were also present in the match and reliving their old memories. “I was a cheerleader 70 years ago,” said Molly Storry, one of the residents who got to flex her spirit squad muscles. Moments like these are worth remembering for.

Great gesture by the high school students

High School students made sure that they take care of the senior members. They had made proper arrangements for the match despite it being scheduled at night. The seniors members enjoyed the join with popcorns in hand. The night turned out to be a proud moment for Van Someron. Van Someron is the former 5th grade teacher of Mike Grant. Mike Grant is the head coach of Eagles and the son of legendary player Bud Grant.

“It’s wonderful, I haven’t gotten to see him coach before,” said Van Someren via cbsnews

A wonderful Friday night came to an end with many memories. It’s good to see the older generation creating memories for a lifetime with this unique experience.
