Tragedy has struck a bustling community in Huntersville. A devastating crash at the intersection of Hambright and Everett Keith roads in Huntersville has left the town in shock. A high-spirited teenager who was a dedicated member of the high school football team at Mallard Creek High School lost his life in a fatal crash.

High school football player dies while 3 others sustain ‘life-threatening injuries’ in Huntersville crash

Caleb Kibula was a cherished member of his high school football team. He was a promising young athlete and his presence on the field was well-justified in his skills. His presence was felt a lot more than just a jersey number.
Kibula was a class of 2025 student at Charlotte-Mecklenburg School who played the offensive line in his football team. He was out with three friends, but things took a tragic turn at around 9:30 pm on February 4 at the convergence point of Hambright and Everett Keith roads in Huntersville. The accident was immediately reported to the rescue team. The Huntersville Fire Department reached the accident spot and tried to save the life of the victims. They took out Kibula from an overturned car but unfortunately, he could not be saved by the rescue team. The Medic pronounced him dead on the spot.
Fortunately, three more teenage boys, who were classmates of Kibula and were accompanying him on the ride, were saved and immediately admitted to the hospital. They too sustained serious injuries. All four of them attended Mallard Creek High School. Kibula’s classmates and loved ones took to social media to express their feelings of profound loss for Kibula’s sudden death.

Unity amidst sorrow, healing hearts in the aftermath of tragedy
The Principal of Mallard Creek High School circulated a message among families informing them that counselors would be available in the school to help students overcome their sense of loss and grief. After the community was struck by such a piece of devastating news, the Mallard Creek High School shared a thought in order to help the bereaved families grapple with the situation.

The school stated that the fact that death is untimely and sudden makes the situation even more difficult. But one must never succumb to one’s emotions in such situations and continue to live life to the fullest, staying as a strong pillar for our loved ones. They added, “What is most important is that we care for and support each other. The Crisis Response Team at Mallard Creek will be available this week to respond to the emotional needs of all students and available to assist with counseling. Counselors will be highly visible throughout the building and available to assist with grief counseling for students and staff.”

The authority further emphasized the fact that it is normal to go through an emotional upheaval when one is forced into such situations and thus they prescribed their students and staff to take the help of the counselors and authority to deal with the tough times.
