Disturbingly, it has come to light that the family of the teenagers appeared to arrive at the site before the submerging car discovery. The trigger was an app on one of the teen’s phones. Amanda Ferguson had a mobile application called Life 360, which offers family safety by sharing location information.
Although the app intends to enhance safety, even the family members couldn’t locate any signs of the teenagers in the vicinity.
Subsequent investigation efforts led to the discovery of the submerged car. A breakthrough came when authorities requested a ‘ping’ from one of the teens’ cell phones. It came through the carrier. This technique revealed the longitude and latitude coordinates of the Kia Forte. It led to the pinpointing of its location just east of Top Golf Way.
An aviation team was deployed to conduct an aerial survey. It revealed a fraction of the car protruding from the water – a heart-wrenching sight that signified the gravity of the incident.
In a grim revelation, investigators disclose about submerging of a car in the pond.
Investigation by the authorities on the car crash
It boasted a depth of approximately eight feet. The force of the crash had propelled the vehicle into a ‘vaulting’ motion. This leads it to land in the retention pond about 20 feet away from the shoreline.
