With the evolution in the world of E-sports, the cycling universe has shifted from asphalt to pixels. The virtual peloton pioneer, Zwift, is about to unveil an e-sports extravaganza known as The Zwift Games that transcends the ordinary.

This attempt to fill the void left by the UCI Cycling E-sports World Championships as it promises a major spectacle comprising three different disciplines. While Zwift steps away from hosting the UCI World Championships, it will ensure to delivery of top-tier virtual cycling events.

As a dynamic and inclusive sports event, through The Zwift Games, the platform will be offering an open qualification in an attempt to welcome cyclists of all levels. It will eventually lead to the elite finals being scheduled to take place in March 2024. Zwift aims to take the games to the pinnacle of virtual cycling with three distinct disciplines drawing global attention towards a unique e-sports platform.

Based on the information provided by the Cycling News, having an open competition will promise democracy as the participants will be free enough to enter community events without pursuing overall titles. Not having any pressure to allow enthusiasts to take part in top-tier events irrespective of their cycling skill level showcases Zwift’s commitment to inclusivity.

The prevalence of a less competitive atmosphere will endow cycling enthusiasts with an opportunity to participate in three championship races. 

Diverse option and equal prize money transforms E-sports

The three categories of the championship races include Sprint, Epic, and Hill Climb. Competing in several events back to back, it adopts elements from the popular Zwift Battle Royale. A diverse representation in the finals will take place while open qualifiers will be determining the finalists.

The 60-kilometer Epic Championship will be testing the endurance level of the participants and will also be including a new route to the enthusiasts alongside the Coastal Causeway. While the Hill Climb will only focus on identifying the top performer in cycling Esports climbing comprises a race up the whole of Alpe du Zwift.

Besides inclusivity, Zwift aims for equality in the world of virtual racing by setting similar rules for both men and women participating emphasizing the fairness of the competition. Previously gender pay gaps have been a concern in e-sports, however, Zwift ensures parity even in prize money.

Even though Zwift has only provided a glimpse into The Zwift Games, the exact dates of the event are yet to be unveiled in December.
