It’s a tragic day for the Loxahatchee community who are reeling from the loss of 13-year-old Kareem Hodge who passed away on Monday morning, following a serious dirt bike accident near Acreage Pines Elementary School. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) stated that Kareem was riding his 2021 Yamaha dirt bike on the Orange Boulevard sidewalk in violation of the law when he collided with a Nissan Murano.

The event that took place at 14200 Orange Boulevard sent into shock to the neighborhood. According to an updated crash report from PBSO, Kareem succumbed to his injuries at 11:38 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

According to witnesses, Kareem was heading towards the school’s service exit when the accident occurred. He was thrown onto the hood of the car and then onto the road, sustaining serious injuries. Despite receiving immediate care from rescue teams and undergoing emergency surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Kareem’s condition remained critical until he passed away.

The person behind the wheel of the Nissan Murano remained at the location and worked with officials during the inquiry. But sadly, the passing of Kareem has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones, acquaintances, and the entire community.

His aunt Shakara Hodge, along with family friend Shevon Banks, thanked the community for their continuous support during this difficult time. Kareem’s mother, who had already lost her husband six months ago, is now dealing with the overwhelming sadness of laying her cherished son to rest.

The grieving family received wholehearted support from the community through heartfelt gestures. A temporary memorial is created at the location of the accident, decorated with flowers and heartfelt notes, serving as a touching reminder of how Kareem will always be remembered by those whose lives he impacted.

To show their support and solidarity, a family friend has set up a GoFundMe page to help Kareem’s family cover funeral expenses and unexpected costs. The family extended their thanks to Western Pines Middle School, the caring staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center, and the empathetic Youth Group at Christ Fellowship of West Lake for their support.

“Kareem brought laughter and happiness to everyone he met, and his absence leaves a profound sadness in our hearts,” the page read. The death of the teenager in a dirt bike crash has rocked every member. It highlights the perils of taking law in one’s hand and why there is a legal riding age.
