The Hesperia community has been left in shock after losing a vicarious spirit like 16-year-old Fernando Gamiz Jr. The student of Oak Hills High School met with a very bad accident on Friday, December 15, at around 7:54 p.m.
Known for his affinity for dirt biking, the life of the young student was cut short when he got involved in a fatal off-road accident. The sudden demise of the dirt biker affectionately known as ‘Ferny’ or ‘Pebbles’ has left his friends and family grappling with an unimaginable loss.
Details of the fateful crash

On the fateful evening, Gamiz Jr. had a head-to-head collision as his dirt bike crashed into an ATV quad on Escondido Avenue, southwards of Ranchero Road. Being alarmed by the news of the road accident, the San Bernardino County Fire Department rushed to the spot.

Based on the reports from VVNG, the investigation indicated an overturn of one of the off-road vehicles that left the dirt biker with a lot of injuries. On reaching the site, Gamiz Jr. was found to be in critical condition and was swiftly transported to the Desert Valley Hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The news came as a blow to the near and dear ones who knew him for his passion for playing accordion. During the crash, the dirt biker was accompanied by a friend, and as per the accounts shared by eyewitnesses, both teenagers were driving at high speeds within the vicinity before the fatal clash transpired.
Community response to the dirt biker’s demise
Even though Gamiz Jr.’s friend was able to survive the crash, the dirt biker’s injuries turned out to be fatal. The community played a crucial role in reviving him, as one of the members administered CPR until emergency responders arrived. However, every effort turned out to be futile.

Following the tragic death of the dirt biker, the California Highway Patrol has initiated an investigation and has temporarily restricted access to sections of Escondido Avenue to accelerate their inquiry process. In the meantime, Gamiz Jr.’s family, in his memory, has set up a GoFundMe campaign.
Just a week ago, another dirt biker from Orlando in his thirties lost his life as another rider struck him while performing a daring jump. Hence, the back-to-back accidents raise concerns about the need for stricter road safety precautions.
Fernando Gamiz Jr.’s untimely demise has cast a somber veil over the Hesperia community. Besides, the incident underscores the need for vigilance among young riders, encouraging them to strike a balance between thrills and safety.
