Devastating Electric Bicycle Explosion Claims Family’s Breadwinner, Reducing His Home to Ashes

The world is forging ahead with technology at the forefront of its development and “electric” has a major role to play in it. The innovations and inventions that it has brought to the fore have changed the way our world functions.

But with every marvelous invention or discovery, there also arrive drawbacks, faults, and negative elements that are difficult to overlook.

Electric advancement claims a life

One of the biggest changes that electricity has brought about is in the transportation sector. The advent of electronic technologies for means of transportation has changed the landscape of the industry and paved the way for remarkable products. The electronic bike is one such product that caught the eye of the consumer and is now certainly seeing a spike in demand and use.

The community of North London, though, was caught on the wrong side of technological advancement. A lithium battery pack that was charging an electric bike in the apartment reportedly exploded after overheating, causing a huge fire to break out in the apartment complex. According to eyewitness reports, the explosion looked like a rocket had crashed into the house.

Firefighters were called to the Woodyard Close in Kentish Town after over 13 calls were made in the wee hours of the morning at around 7 am. The Fire Brigade sent ten fire engines and close to 70 firefighters, highlighting just how huge the explosion was.

The dark side of technology

As reported by Jaun News UK, five people managed to escape the building before it was up in flames and filled with smoke completely. The entire operation to control the fire took the fire brigade a total of two and a half hours. Unfortunately, the crew found the body of a man on the ground floor and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Along with that, the house of that particular man too was completely destroyed in the fire, leaving his family members in total devastation.

Speaking to the media after the tragic incident, Billy Corrol, the Chairman of the Tenants and Residents Association in Woodyard Close, he said, “Everyone [in the community] is totally devastated. When you see it, it’s like a rocket has just hit a house and blew up. That’s the damage it’s caused. That house is totally gone.”
He added: “It’s such a shock, especially for the family’s children. I think they actually saw the fire so that’s something that will be in their minds for the rest of their lives, seeing their house go up.”

Further investigations revealed that there were a bunch of houses that were damaged in the tragic explosion and houses surrounding the complex too were damaged in the incident. The Residents Association gave all affected households £500 each to deal with the damage. They also took a significant step in setting up a GoFundMe for the bereaved family. The family that lost their home in the fire is currently living with their relatives till they figure out their next step.
