In the charged arena where every flick of a dart holds the promise of victory, a controversy has sparked up-courtesy goes to former Top Gear presenter, Paddy McGuinness. The recent dart championship had left the nation at the edge of their seats with the clash between two Lukes. 16-year-old Luke Littler and 50-year-old Luke Humphries.

McGuiness sparked a controversy by tracing the reason behind the young prodigy’s defeat, which according to him was because of the presence of the cheerleaders. Hence, the dart championship apart from casting a spotlight on fierce competition, brought focus to the potential distractions by the cheerleaders.

Cheerleader’s theory for dart championship loss

The world champion, Humphries defeated the teenager, taking charge with 7-4, and claimed his first PDC World Championship title. With his victory, the dart champion claimed the prize of £500,000 (approximately $6,34,000). An avid follower of the contest, McGuiness expressed his disappointment for the teen and came up with a new theory.

In the aftermath of the final, he took to his Instagram account to share his takeaways from the event. Initially, he praised and congratulated Humphries for his prowess but soon veered into an unexpected territory. His remark in the casual video included, “Littler, I’ve got to be honest, I’m blaming those cheerleaders at the top… He was never going to be able to concentrate. If he’s back next year I’m getting him a set of blinkers.”  Always known for his candid opinions, McGuinness escalated the electrifying atmosphere pointing fingers at the cheerleaders who might have contributed to Littler’s defeat. 

A bright future lies ahead for dart prodigy

Humphries has proved his excellence four times in a row for the past five seasons in the televised tournaments of PDC (Professional Darts Champion). However, for the 16-year-old dart player, it was a debut. But, Littlers triumphed in captivating the attention with his exceptional prowess even being a fresher at such a renowned platform.

He has been known to be throwing darts since he was 18 months old and recently defeated the famous Christian Kist in the first round. Hence, the dart fans had held a lot of hope around Littler winning the championship title. However, he ended up as the runner-up and has shared his gratitude for the incredible final performance.

 Despite the defeat, support poured in for Littler, as fans predicted a bright future for the determined teenager. 

McGuinness’ spontaneous commentary after the dart championship bestowed an interesting twist to the final result between Humphries and Littler. Even though there has been much speculation about the angle of cheerleader distraction, the young prodigy’s talent and resilience remained unanimous. He embraces the experience and looks forward to chasing glory on the grand stage.
