There is nothing like the love of a mother. There’s also no length a mother wouldn’t go to make sure her children are safe and well taken care of. It’s convenient to make grand proclamations to show how much mothers care. However, we are not talking about metaphors here today. Today, we are reliving the story of how a pair of daredevil moms decided to drop out of the sky to raise almost $20,000 for a children’s hospice that looked after their children.

You read that right – Holly Nixon and Evita Bolmane jumped out of an airborne plane to show their gratitude toward Derian House Children’s Hospice. The hospice had taken care of Nixon’s late four-year-old son, Alfie, and Bolmane’s three-year-old daughter, Gaby.

Both Nixon and Bolmane claimed they over a great debt of gratitude to Derrian’s Hospice because they looked after Alfie and Gaby. Nixon and her family spent their time after Alfie’s demise at Derrian’s Hospice, where Alfie lay in rest. This gave them some much-needed extra time to say goodbye to him. “There is nothing I could physically do to pay back Derian House for what they did for Alfie and us,” said Holly.

Meanwhile, Bolmane’s daughter, Gaby, who was born with half a heart (hypoplastic left heart syndrome), visits the hospice frequently. She enjoys the spot for playgroup and cinema visits and has even spent a vacation week in their lodges for free. Bolmane claimed she “smiled all the way down,” while skydiving because she was happy to give back, in any way possible, to Derian House.

She performed the dive with her two neighbors – Leah and Nick – while little Gaby watched on and met her mother at the end. While Nixon raised £18,636 for the hospice, Bolmane’s jump contributed an extra  £500 to the raised funds. So far, the total funds raised stand at £65,300, with even more people taking to the skies later this month.

What Derian Needs from You

Derian’s Community Fundraiser Kerry Pritchard commended the supporters who jump out of the sky to raise funds for Derian every year. “Evita and Holly are both very brave and we’re so proud of them for this awesome challenge,” she added. Pritchard says that it will cost around £6 million to run the hospice in 2023, also extending her gratitude to those who contribute towards this cause.

“We rely on the bravery and kindness of our supporters who take part in events like these to help children whose lives are too short,” Pritchard explained. Derian House, based in Chorley, Lancashire, looks after over 400 babies, children, young people, and their families. It sees patients from across the North West and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Find out more by visiting the website here.
