While he did not participate in the recently concluded Cyclocross World Championships in Tabor, Aert made sure that he was not out of practice. As a part of his training regime in Mallorca, the 29-year-old cyclist rode on his bike along with Julien Vermote & Tiesj Benoot a day before the championships. All three riders belonged to the same team and were an important part of the Visma-Lease a Bike.
Aert and his fellow riders embarked on a 223 km ride, which was a part of their training. The elevation covered was said to be approximately 3000 meters, while they maintained an average speed of 31.8 kph. As the Belgian’s absence could be felt significantly at the CX Worlds, he and his Belgian teammates completed a 44.5 km ride within ninety minutes this Sunday. Such news only goes on to showcase Aert’s motivation to succeed on the roads.
Wout Van Aert is due for his road debut at the UCI 1. Pro Clasica de Almeria. This would be a one-day affair, and Aert wants to make sure that no stones are being left unturned. Interestingly, after bossing the cyclo-cross realm, Aert’s arch rival, too, has hinted towards a shift.

Mathieu Van der Poel vs Wout Van Aert on road?
Both Poel and Aert were two of the biggest names in the cyclo-cross realm. While Aert got the better of the Dutchman during their Benidorm face-off on January 21, Poel registered his sixth title victory at Tabor on Sunday. However, if Poel’s recent remarks are to be considered, then the feud might get re-ignited on a different playing field. Aert switched his attention to the roads after consulting his team. His coach, Mathieu Hejboer too, wanted the Belgian to concentrate solely on the upcoming Spring Classics.
